Stuffed mushrooms make a filling side dish or appetizer. This is a basic filling recipe for mushrooms:

Ingredients for Stuffed Mushrooms:

  • 20 to 24 big button mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1/2 an onion, chopped finely
  • a 1/2-cup of breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup of finely chopped Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped parsley
  • For flavor, add salt and pepper.
  • Optional: 1/4 cup chopped cooked sausage or bacon (to add some flavor)
  • 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese is optional (for topping)

Instructions for Stuffed Mushrooms:

Set the oven temperature to 375°F, or 190°C. Grease a baking sheet gently or line it with parchment paper.

Stuffed Mushrooms

To remove any dirt, wipe the mushrooms with a paper towel or wet cloth. Slice the mushrooms into small pieces after removing their stems. Place the caps of the mushrooms aside.

In a skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté for three to four minutes, or until the onions become transparent.

Stuffed Mushrooms

Add the chopped stems from the mushrooms to the skillet and cook dinner for a further three minutes, or until the mushrooms release their liquid.

Take the skillet off of the burner. Add the cooked bacon or sausage, parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, parsley, salt, and pepper. Everything should be thoroughly mixed to a stuffing-like consistency.

Take each mushroom cap and stuff it full of the arranged stuffing aggregate, pressing it down firmly to make sure it stays together.

Stuffed Mushrooms

The stuffed mushrooms should be placed on the prepared baking sheet. Top each stuffed mushroom with shredded mozzarella cheese, if desired.

Bake for 18 to 20 minutes in a preheated oven, or until the stuffing is golden brown on top and the mushrooms are tender.

After cooking, take them out of the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

If desired, garnish with more finely chopped parsley and serve hot.
